Drywall Dent Repair
Drywall is everywhere these days. Walk into almost any modern home and you are literally surrounded by the stuff. It’s an excellent, relatively cheap and easy material to work with, so it has become ubiquitous in all kinds of construction applications.
As nice as drywall is, it does have some minor downsides. Most notable of these is its durability. Drywall is excellent for many reasons, but occasionally even the most minor bumps and accidents can leave you with a gaping hole in your wall. Common causes of this include doorknobs, errant pool cues, wayward boots and of course young children.
Luckily, drywall is about as easy to fix as it is to set up in the first place. Today we’ll discuss how to repair a small hole – such as one made by a doorknob. If you have larger drywall issues, especially if you have extensive water damage, it’s probably a better idea to call a pro – like the ones at Pristine Painting and Decorating!
Now let’s get this repair started.
Safety First!
This is a fairly minor repair, but safety is still a priority. First off, you’ll want some eye protection and a face mask to keep the harsh debris out of your lungs. Next, you’ll want to ensure the are is safe for you and your family. Large pieces of drywall can be very heavy, and large buckets can pose a drowning risk for young children. Ensure that children are kept far away when using these tools.
Drywall’s most common hazard is as a respiratory irritant. Use a facemask and put down a drop cloth. That way cleaning just requires a simple wipe down and vacuum and you don’t end up with nasty dust all over your house.
Gather the Materials
For this job you’ll need an adhesive drywall patch, drywall compound – lightweight or all purpose – and a drywall knife.
Get Going!
First, cut the patch down so it’s slightly larger than the hole you’re trying to fix. Then, remove the back and apply the patch to the hole. Next, take the compound and apply it to the patch, use the knife to smooth it down. Apply at least three coats of the compound. Now all that’s left to do is let the compound dry, and voila, it’s fixed!
This procedure works for almost any minor drywall damage. However, if you do encounter more extensive drywall damage, damage from water, or simply don’t have the time do deal with fixing it yourself, be sure to call the experts at Pristine Painting. No matter how big or how small your job might be, we’ll have your home looking like new in no time!
